Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio, 1996
“On Monday afternoon before the WCW Monday Nitro live show, I photographed wrestler Rey Mysterio. Rey was known mostly for his signature Mexican wrestler mask, but also for his acrobatic diving moves, usually performed from the top rope or turnbuckle of the ring.
Rey could not have been more generous and collaborative with his time and his body. He was eager to please and enthusiastically volunteered to run up the cyclorama (a curved solid wall in the photo studio), push off and fly through the air in a sky diver pose, landing on a crash pad. It looked amazing. He did it again and again, each jump more perfect than the one before. We knew we were capturing the peak of his jump because we were using Polaroid 665. The shoot went great. I thanked Rey by hugging him and giving him a couple of Polaroids to take with him.”
