Billie Eilish
I photographed Billie Eilish at a recording studio in Los Angeles for Variety in 2023. The space was strikingly bare—most of the equipment had been cleared into another room, leaving only a beautiful baby grand piano at its center.
I suggested we shoot in black and white, which is rare for a major publication. Billie stepped in, glanced at the first frame, and immediately agreed—it felt right. She settled delicately behind the piano, and in that moment, something clicked. All the Arnold Newman references living in the back of my mind suddenly surfaced, guiding the frame in a way that felt both instinctive and inevitable. – Victoria Stevens
