Gala
This image was taken on assignment for Dior during the Guggenheim International Gala in 2016. The brief was to photograph select celebrities wearing the brand, but I always carve out a moment to make something for myself.
I positioned myself at the top of the museum’s spiraling rotunda, looking down with a long lens into the crowd below. The scene was a swirl of movement—guests dining, talking, drifting in and out of one another’s orbit. In the middle of it all, one man stood completely still, absorbed in something—or someone—beyond the frame.
I held on him for a few quiet seconds, letting the chaos move around him, until he finally disappeared back into it. – Victoria Stevens
