About Michael Moran
Michael Moran was born in California but spent most of his childhood overseas in Burma, Turkey, Colombia, and Pakistan.ย He studied biology and sculpture at the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara, and later earned a Masters degree in Architecture at UCLA.ย Moran began photographing architecture while employed in Frank Gehryโs studio; he was asked to photograph the models he was making.ย This led to photographing buildings in construction, and eventually completed projects.ย As Moranโs love of photography grew, his interest in designing was diminished until one eclipsed the other.
In 1985, Moran moved to New York City to begin a full-time practice in architectural photography.ย He has since worked with dozens of architects, designers and editors.ย He has published several books, including two books with Japanese publisher a+u, a survey of New York City architecture and another on Philip Johnsonโs Glass House.ย Moran photographed the work of landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx for a 1991 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, and he has published books on the work of Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, John Johansen, and Rafael Moneo.
