Dolly Parton
“Timothy White and I have known each other and worked together for 25 years. I am very familiar with his work and very much wanted him to be part of the inaugural ATTA collection—particularly the Icons gallery. As everything at ATTA is exclusive, we needed to have something never released. Knowing Timothy had photographed Dolly Parton several times I thought what a perfect fit for Icons. Specifically, I thought of Timothys 1994 shoot with Dolly as I have always liked the graphic nature of the images and her strong pose, back to the camera. I thought, how great it would be if there was one frame where Dolly was turned in profile. I asked Timothy about the possibility, but he didn’t recall ever coming across any frames like that. I prodded him to scan the contacts sheets from the original film and send them over to me so I could do a deep dive. Thankfully he was game to do it. And, after pouring over frame after frame, there it was, one perfect frame. And only one. And now it’s here it is, available for the first time.”

“Dolly Parton, Manhattan, NY, 1994. Dolly walks in wearing this gingham dress with her guitar strapped on her, denim jacket covered in rhinestones, and she is so country—but there’s something more…she’s also just Dolly. Everything about her was big. She had her big hair, you know, big personality, a big career, and big…I mean, you know…you can’t ignore them, and she certainly didn’t want you to, either.
She’s this legend, and it’s such an honor when you get to work with someone you truly respect and admire—and they show up, not only ready to create but to bring so much fun and energy to the process. She was larger than life, but her voice was small and the way she spoke so demure, like she didn’t need to overpower anyone. Dolly was born poor, 11 siblings, I mean, it was incredible that she became who she is. She isn’t a diva, yet she has the right to be one. She’s one of kind and she’s not trying to be, she just is. No apologies, no pretensions, just Dolly.”
